Bayethe Trust Gives Back

YOUNG men and women in the Hlabisa district are set to be blessed by the establishment of a health centre project on the Africa Centre premises.
This after an announcement last week that His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelethini’s Bayethe Trust (BT) Foundation would be rebuilding a disused hall, donated by the local traditional authority, for use as a multi-purpose health centre.

‘The establishment of the Bayethe Wellness Centre in this district is necessary to serve a community which was previously disadvantaged and lacks access to basic amenities,’ said Trust CEO, Rhana Naicker.

‘This project is destined to become the Bayethe Trust’s flagship and will hopefully be replicated in all eleven districts in the province based on the success of this pilot.

‘Services at the centre, which will be operated by a Bayethe Trust employee, will augment those currently being proposed to be offered by the Hlabisa Hospital in collaboration with Department of Health.’
Among other services, the centre will promote the following services:

  •  Medical male circumcision camps once a week.
  • ‘Boys for Life’ health awareness programmes once a week, which would include condom distribution, talks on gender-based violence and HIV testing.
  • Hosting of ‘ZAZI’ programmes for young girls, creating awareness around puberty, sexuality, life orientation skills and teenage pregnancies.
  • Weekly training of traditional birth attendants to reduce maternal and infant mortality.

‘It is intended that these initiatives will be funded by the Bayethe Trust as a five-year programme with special emphasis on males, with the idea of converting the centre to a men’s health clinic within the next five years,’ said Naicker.

‘All the programmes above will be championed by Queen Thandi, who has been nominated by His Majesty to represent him.’
Naicker also announced the establishment of a partnership between the SA Zionist Federation (SAZF), the South Africa Friends of Israel (SAFI) and the Bayethe Trust Foundation.

Already millions of rands have been allocated towards a men’s health clinic for eMondlo at Vryheid, being built in collaboration with the Department of Health.
‘It is a privilege and honour for the Jewish community of South Africa to partner with His Excellency King Goodwill Zwelethini in this project to be undertaken at the Africa Centre and in support of the well-being of the Zulu nation,’ said Ben Swartz, Chairman of SAFI and Vice Chairman of the SAZF.
